It was my pleasure to give a tour of McCraney Run to some good friends from Utica. After seeing video of some of the problems from the area, they were stoked to take the long trip to see what North Central PA bouldering is all about. Everyone agreed that the rock was super quality and the problems were unique and very fun. McCraney delivers!
There must have been something in the air yesterday as everyone absolutely crushed everything. Every line except 1 saw repeats, onsights and/or flashes. About 5 new lines were established; Andy, Zac and Heather put up some really fun warm ups in the first set. Also a project went; Odysseus low start seeing a first and second accent (great work Andy!!!). So sick. To note Zac had a proud flash of the thuggy Ziggy Dub Step, keeping cool with so much beta being sprayed on the send (video below). Good work Zac!
With about a hour and half of day light left and McCraney pretty much ticked off. I took everyone over to Sunfish Pond to give them a taste of the newest discovery. Blown away by the roof features they now have something to be syked to come back too.
Not knowing what we were going to do, we focused our attention to the obvious squeezy looking bloc. At first thinking it was going to be easy, but then trying dozens of attempts to start the problem, it ended up being quite difficult. Temperatures dropped to low 40 near sunset and the crushing commenced. Two stout lines came from the late day session, a left arete version Dead Homies (again good work Zac!) and a right arete transfer into the left arete version, Libations. Cannot wait to get back and see the full potential of the Sunfish!
